Humpback Flukes, Briar Island, NS

There are several commercial operations thriving on Digby Neck, Long Island and Briar Island that offer whale watching cruises. This shot was taken on one of these. Whale biologists are able to identify individual whales by the pattern of white on the underside of the tail flippers, called "flukes."
