Sharp Shin Hawk
This is a juvenile bird that terrorized the flocks at my feeders for the entire fall and winter of 2002-2003. I never saw him make a kill but surely he was successful on occasion for he seemed healthy enough. He briefly took to perching on a fence post not three feet outside my computer room window. My friend Jo caught him in the shot below with 672mm of focal length at a distance of 5 feet when he did this. That was the minimum focusing distance with the lens and converter that just happened to be on the camera when she grabbed it!
