These birds were photographed in the vicinity of their nest near a suburban shopping mall. It was still early in the nesting season and much flying about was being done before settling in to the long drudgery of incubating eggs. The male bird is pictured in the two images above. He has a pale and incomplete "necklace" compared to the female pictured below.

The above two images are of the female. Note her much more prominent "necklace" of brown feathers. She is also larger than the male, but I was not able to readily observe this difference.
