Tree Swallows

There are many pairs of these colourful little birds nesting in the boxes provided for them scattered throughout the marsh. They are quite tolerant of human presence and consequently easy to approach.

I watched as this swallow tried valiantly to get the feather into the nesting box. She was determined! After making several attempts, she flew to a neighbouring box and tried it too. Finally she gave up. The feather just wasn't going to fit. I sort'a wanted to help her.
